The Craftsman Training Scheme is implemented by Directorate General Training (DGT) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. With the help of State Governments & Union Territory Administrators, DGT is implementing vocational training at various ITIs.

Livelihood opportunities are affected by supply and demand side issues. On the supply side, India is failing to create enoughjob opportunities;and on the demand side, professionals entering the job market are lacking in skill sets.This is resulting in a scenario of rising unemployment rates along with low employability.

Objectives of Training are to conduct various courses and training programmes not only to provide suitable manpower to Hotel Industry to fill in its various posts but also to equip the trainees with adequate practical knowledge of Hospitality Industry so as to enable them to start their own business according their capacity. In this way, the Institute plays a significant role in providing job opportunities to the trainees.

Skill development of the self-employed is essential to make the transition from own account workers to employers or entrepreneurs. The success of the major programmes of the current Government Make in India, Digital India, Smart City, Namami Gange, Swachh Bharat depends on the success of the Skill India Mission in skilling and reskilling by 2022.

Skill development is the focus area of the government policy. It is central to accessing employment in the formal sector and enhancing productivity in the informal economy for reducing poverty and risk of underemployment. The National Policy on Skill Development aims to train about million people afresh and additional reskilled, up-skilled and skilled by 2025.

Skill development is an important driver to address poverty reduction by improving employability, productivity and helping sustainable enterprise development and inclusive growth. It facilitates a cycle of high productivity,increased employment opportunities, income growth and development. However, this is just one factor among many affecting the productivity whose measurement differs for individuals, enterprise and economy.
